Acq Inc Franchise Positions

Congratulations on purchasing/obtaining/stealing an Acquisitions Incorporated official adventuring franchise!

Running your new acquisition can be intimidating, but AcqInc™ has a system in place to help you. Each member of the franchise will assume one of the following roles. (Note: not all roles will be filled in all franchises.)

Cartographer (Kez)

The iconic cartographer makes a point of knowing the position of every member of their team, understanding the layout of their immediate area, and the location of any exits or escape routes.

Essential Functions: Create and maintain maps of a franchise's journeys; dictate directions.

Benefits: Cartographer's tools proficiency, land or water vehicles proficiency. Also proficient in creating or examining maps, searching for new paths in the wild, or assessing a route for possible dangers.

Rank 1: It's A Rental

At the start of any mission, you can requisition a second-had draft horse and cart (barely functional), riding horses and ponies (typically well aged, one for each party member), passage on a ship or ferry (might require minor labor as part of the fare), and similar transportation. Any damage or losses to requisitioned equipment is expected to be repaid to Head Office.

Decisionist (Samara)

The iconic decisionist constantly polls allies and foes during the ongoing battle, getting a read on what everyone thinks, and then explaining how they're all completely wrong.

Essential Functions: Receive one extra vote on franchise matters; resolve interparty conflicts.

Benefits: Horn proficiency. Also proficient in influencing decisions made by a group, assessing the popularity of certain customs or individuals, or boosting the morale of franchise hirelings. Gain a voting kit and a Coin Of Decisionry.

Rank 1: Tiebreaker

Whenever the members of your franchise take a vote, you can present your coin of decisionry and cast two votes.

Hoardsperson (Mu)

The iconic hoardsperson flaunts their wealth, knowing that foes are daunted by that which they have failed to earn.

Essential Functions: Manage stores and items; track resources.

Benefits: Jeweler's tools proficiency. Also proficient in negotiating a price for goods and services, assessing the quality of equipment and treature, or analyzing resources in a local area. Gain jeweler's tools and an account ledger, and up to 5gp worth of common containers.

Rank 1: What A Deal

You can use your extensive supply network to buy one item found on any table in "Mounts & Vehicles" or "Trade Goods" and have it delivered to your franchise headquarters within one day. With a DC15 Cha(Persuasion) check, you get a 50% discount.

Loremonger (Davion)

The iconic loremonger trades in information, even when locked down in battle. A loremonger constantly tries to goad foes into revealing plans and secrets.

Essential Functions: Record names, dates, and vital information.

Benefits: Choose 1 proficiency: one type of artisan's tools, navigator's tools, land vehicles, or water vehicles. Also proficient in analyzing the operation of a franchise, assessing historical records, and deciphering codes.

Rank 1: Whisper Jar

You gain a whisper jar, a magical recording device resembling an ether-filled container with a long tap hose leading to a microphone. The jar is used to record others' stories and your own observations, like a verbal notebook with unlimited space. It records as fast as a creature can speak, and whispers back words at the same pace they were recorded. Activating the playback of a recording is an action.

Secretarian (Iron)

The iconic secretarian treats their foes like customers, offering deals they shouldn't refuse and inviting them to switch allegiances for greater profit and security.

Essential Functions: Extract information; assess the strengths and weaknesses of others.

Benefits: Choose 1 proficiency: gaming set, musical instrument, or disguise kit. Also proficient in convincing a suspicious crowd of your good (or at least non-evil) intentions, encouraging franchise hirelings to work faster, or improvising a jingle extolling the virtues of your franchise. Gain a tool kit for your proficiency, a collection of sales brochures, a set of business cards, a metal bell, and a set of fine clothes.

Rank 1: Sending Stone

You are giving use of an official AcqInc™ sending stone, resembling a large gemstone in a bold setting. Once per day, you can cast Sending to communicate with Head Office, specific secretarians you know, or the closest secretarian to your current location. You must succeed on a DC15 Int(Arcana) check to contact anyone other than Head Office.

(Unused Franchise Roles)

Documancer

The iconic documancer acts with the authority of their organization. Documancers constantly speak in legalese, referencing obscure reasons why opponents will fail or should surrender.

Essential Functions: Record information; track job and quest details within the franchise.

Benefits: Calligrapher's tools proficiency. Also proficient in organizing lore, analyzing official or arcane documents, and conveying a legally binding point of view. Gain calligrapher's supplies, a documancy satchel, a ledger, sealing wax, copper and silver leaf, a documancer's seal, and a scroll case.

Rank 1: Gift Of Words

You are fluent in the semi-arcane language of documancy. You have advantage on Int checks to decipher codes or similar scripts, and may receive clues from the DM when solving a puzzle.

Obviator

The iconic obviator sees foes as obstacles worthy of respect. Obviators engage in repartee, testing the minds and skills of their opponents as their own strategy is deployed.

Essential Functions: Destroy targets (people and information); study conflicts.

Benefits: Alchemist's supplies proficiency. Also proficient in making sense of an enemy's tactics, discerning a hidden threat, and intimidating a foe whose weaknesses you have already assessed. Gain alchemists's supplies, a hunting trap, and your choice of a vial of acid, a flask of alchemist's fire, or a vial of antitoxin.

Rank 1: Read The Opposition

You can attempt to get a reading on one creature you can see. Make a DC 15 Wis(Insight) check as a bonus action. On success, learn three details of your choice about the creature. This ability can't be used again until you finish a long rest, and it can only be used once on any creature. Possible details include: goals or motivation, bonds or ideals, personality traits, flaws, combat strategy, financial information, lair location, allies or foes, romantic entanglements, sense of humor, or favorite songs.

Occultant

The iconic occultant believes that every action changes the world around them, requiring a proper reaction. Occultants attempt to inspire fear in their foes with dire prognostications and mysterious portents.

Essential Functions: Track kills; assess the value to the franchise of the living and the dead.

Benefits: Choose 1 proficiency: cook's utensils, leather-worker's tools, or weaver's tools. Also proficient in intimidating a creature close to death, assessing what disease or poison killed a creature, or explaining what that dead body is doing under your bed at the inn. Gain a tool kit for your chosen proficiency, a merchant's scale, five waterproof belt pouches, and an occultant abacus, whose beads resemble tiny skulls.

Rank 1: Read The Kill

Your occultant abacus not only tracks your franchise's kills, it helps you determine the impact of those kills on the franchise's fate. Over a period of 1 minute, you can study a creature killed by someone in your franchise within the last 24 hours, then grant the character who slew it a d10. Once within the next hour, that character can add the d10 to any attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. This ability can't be used again until you finish a long rest.
